December 16, 2001 - Y-Speedos continue to haul in medals at the Delfines D'Oro Swim Meet in Panama. 11-12 Girls take Gold in 400 M Medley Relay

December 16, 2001 - Matthew Stewart, Alford Green and Gillian Stewart combine to break eight National Senior, National Age Group and All Comers Age Group records as Tornadoes Swim the wins the inagural Age Group Gold Challenge. The results have been posted on the meet results page.

December 15, 2001 - Y' SPEEDOS MINE MORE GOLD IN DELFINES D'ORO SWIM MEET, PANAMA.

December 15, 2001 - Tornadoes open lead in Age Group Challenge as Gillian Stewart and Alford Green break age group records. Gillian Stewart smashed Allison Bardowell's National Age Group 9-10 50 metre Butterfly Record swimming 35:00. Alford Green broke Tshaka Douglas' 9-10 100 M Freestyle National Age Group (1:05.76) and All Commers Age Group Record when he swam 1:04.41 to win the event in fine style.

December 9, 2001 - FLORIDA GOLD COAST CHAMPIONSHIPS - Alia Atkinson breaks FGC 50 y Breaststroke record. Alia, Adi Atkinson and Robert Chen mine Gold.

December 7, 2001 - FLORIDA GOLD COAST CHAMPIONSHIPS Jamaicans win four Golds during the first full day of competition. Alia Atkinson, Brad Hamilton and Robert Chen lead the way.

November 17, 2001 - Janelle Atkinson swam an amazing 1000 Yard Freestyle time of 9:34.85 to finish 38 seconds ahead of her nearest rival. UF Head Coach, Greg Troy said "We had one really amazing swim in the 1000 freestyle finish of Janelle's [Atkinson]. If she continues on that pace, she can beat the school record in the 1650-yard freestyle."....more

November 17, 2001 - Immaculate Prep, Mona Prep and Excelsior Primary Schools win as Matthew Hilton smashes three meet records at ASAJ Prep Schools Swim Meet

November 14, 2001 - National Squad Member Allison Bardowell wins gold in District 9 High Schools Swim Meet. Melissa Bardowell and Nicky Cain also compete

November 13, 2001 - University of Florida remains undeafeated as Janelle Atkinson wins 200 M Freestyle

November 13, 2001 - Angela Chuck wins 100 and 200 freestyle and helps Brown University womens swim team overcome challenge from Big 10 Michigan University

November 11, 2001 - ALIA AND JEVON ATKINSON win Gold for Flanagan High School at Florida 3A District 9 High School Swimming Championships

ASAJ CHANGES WALTER LOWI COMPETITION TO SHORT COURSE FORMAT - Responding to popular request, the ASAJ today decided to change the Walter Lowi Sprint Meet, scheduled for November 24, 2001, to a short course format.

October 27, 2001 - The results for session 2 and 3 of the AB Short Course Classic have been posted in html and pdf format. Points standing will be posted on Sunday.

SPEEDOS ALFORD GREEN STARS AT AB SHORT COURSE CLASSIC - October 26, 2001 - -Speedos 10 year old swimming sensation Alford Green swim two (2) AAAA times on the first day of the AB Short Course Swim Classis being held at the National Stadium Pool in Kingston. Green swam 2:48.41 in the 9-10 Male 200 M Individual Medley to touch first ahead of his teammate Ramon Walton who swam 3:02.45. He returned to dominate the 200 M Freestyle with another spectacular time of 2:23.48 again pushing Walton into second place (2:45.28)....more

AB SHORT COURSE CLASSIC SET TO ROLL - Oct. 25, 2001 - All is set for the first ever AB Short Course Swim Classis to be held in the National Stadium Diving Pool October 26 to 28, 2001. 306 swimmers from 7 teams have entered the competition which will see the first dive at 5:30 on Friday........more

ASAJ APPROVES CHANGES TO CALENDAR (October 11, 2001) - The ASAJ approved the following changes to its Calendar: ISSA High Schools Meet - changed to Nov. 30, 2001. The dates for the Blue Seal Swim Meet has been confirmed (April 5-7, 2002). The Crimson Dawn Relays have been canceled).

FINA NEWS - IOC GIVES FINA THUMBS DOWN ON NEW OLYMPIC EVENTSS and reduces number of swimmers at 2004 Games.

DEVELOPMENT MEET (Sept. 22, 2001) - 228 Swimmers from 10 Teams competed in the first ASAJ Development Meet of the 2001-2002 swimming season. Competing for the first time in an organized swimming competition were 28 swimmers from Port Royal Primary. Meet results have been posted.

September 21, 2001 - NATIONAL SQUAD QUALIFIERS NAMED Thirty-nine swimmers have attained the qualiying times for and have been invited to the National Swim Squad. The ASAJ Council on Sept 13, 2001 ratified the recomendations submitted by the Selection Commitee. Congratulation to everyone selected - lets start working hard for next years four big competitions...

2001-2004 MEET QUALIFYING TIMES APPROVED The ASAJ Council has approved the Meet Qualifying Times for all International Competitions up to and including the 2004 Olympic Games. The times for the 2003 Pan American Games are provisional as ASUA, who has oversight over the games, has not yet published their qualifying times. The criteria for calculating the qualifying time was developed to create a progression of faster times from CARIFTA to the Olympic Games.

August 10, 2001 FINA Coaches Clinic   Aug 11, 2001 FINA has agreed to sponsor a Coaches Clininc in Jamaica, August 31 to September 2. The Instructor will be a Canadian Coach, Mr. Mark Fellner. Mark is a Level 4 coach, has a Bachelor of Arts and Science and a Major in Physical Education. He has Coached at many major competitions including the Olympics, Pan American and the Commonwealth Games...see Coach Fellners resume. Clinic details will be published when they are available.
