DECEMBER

December 22, 2007 - The curtains came down today at the Christmas Open Swimming Championship, after three days of exciting swimming competition. Tornadoes swim club was the winners with 3692 points, followed by Y-Speedos (1724 points) and Blue Seals (781.5 points)....results

December 21, 2007 - Tornadoes Swim Club extended their lead on Day 2 of the Christmas Open Swimming Championship, which saw good performances from some of our swimmers who are studying overseas but home for the holidays .....results

December 20, 2007 - Tornadoes Swim Club takes an early lead in the Christmas Open Swimming Championship. After one day of competition, they have amassed 1263 points, followed by y-Speedos and Blue Seals swim clubs respectively..... results

December 19, 2007 - Seven members of the y-Speedos Swim Club, including five national representatives, took part in the A.S.A.T.T. Invitational Meet in Trinidad this past weekend....press release

December 4, 2007 - The corrected results for the Complan ASAJ Prep/Primary Schools and ISSA High Schools/University meets held this past weekend, have been added to the Results page. Hillel Prep was the Champion school in the Prep/Primary Schools meet, with Mona second and Wolmers third. Naggo Head was the top Primary School, and also winner of the Complan Spirit Award.

In the High Schools meet, Immaculate was the Champion girls' team, with St Andrews second and Campion College third. Campion College won the boys' section, followed by Ardenne and Wolmer's Boys respectively. UTECH was the only university team.

October 28, 2007 - Tornadoes Swim Club successfully defended the Dean Martin 'AB' Swim Meet Championship trophy, scoring 927 points. y'Speedos Swim Club was second with 740 points and Blue Seals Swim Club third with 318 points. y'Speedos won the Masters section with 63 points....results

October 26, 2007 - The Dean Martin 'AB' Swim Meet dived into action today at the Stadium pool. Tornadoes Swim Club has taken the early lead, followed by y-Speedos Swim Club ...results

SEPTEMBER

September 26, 2007 - CARIFTA 2008 dates set! Aruba, has announced that the dates for the 2008 CARIFTA Swimming Championships (swimming and synchronized swimming) will be March 21 - 26th.  The Synchronized Swimming Competition will be held over three days (March 22-24).

September 24, 2007 - ASAJ names new National Squad: Sixty nine swimmers have been invited to join the national senior, junior and development squads in anticipation of a very busy 2007-2008 season.....more

September 16, 2007 - The ASAJ and SwimJamaica family last night thanked Cath and Peter Moore for four fantastic years that they have given to Jamaica.  Cath and Peter who have for the last three years worked tirelessly to develope what is now a fantastic National Learn to Swim programme, will be returning to Scotland on Wednesday September 19. Over 60 persons attended the function held at the home of ASAJ President John Eyre including JOA President Mike Fennell, Managers of SwimJamaica partner the University of the Caribbean, numerous SwimJamaica Instructors, members of the SwimJamaica Board and many other friends of SwimJamaica.....more

September 13, 2007 - Jamaica will be hosting a FINA Water Polo Referees School for the America's in Montego Bay at the Sunset Beach Resort and Spa. The three (3) day Referees School will run from Friday November 9th to Sunday November 11th, 2007. More information will be published shortly.

August 22, 2007 - The results of the Summer Splash Las Lic meet has been corrected to reflect that event 38 was swam as 100M free....result page

August 20, 2007 - Jamaica put up a good fight against Canada but poor finishing created a final score line of 15-5 in favor of Canada. The goal scorers for Jamaica were Jamie Smith and John-Claude-Wright who netted 2 goals each and Marlon McIntyre who scored 1. The Jamaicans fought hard but missed many opportunities, including only one goal in seven "man-up" situations. The score by quarters were: 1st. 3:1 (Canada): 2nd. 5:2 (Canada)...7:3 at the half: 3rd. 5:0 (Canada): 4th 5:3 (Canada). Final score 15:3

Jamaica will play Puerto Rico on Tuesday, August 21 and hope to win to remain in 5th place in Group B.....more

August 19, 2007 - Jamaica was outplayed by France in a  23-1 loss but remained in 4th place in Group B ahead of Puerto Rico. Jamaica's next opponent will be Canada - this games starts at 5:30 PM EST on August 19....more scores

May 31, 2007 - The ASAJ is seeking a suitable candidate to fill the position of Facilities Coordinator to manage the National Stadium Pool and Bournemouth Bath which will be reopened later this summer....more

May 30, 2007 - The ASAJ, SwimJamaica, The Kingston Rotary Club and the Combined Disabilities Association have teamed up to renovate and operate the Bournemouth Bath multi purpose Facilities located on the Kingston waterfront. The ASAJ will be responsible for Managing and Maintaining the two pools (one eight lane 25 M pool and a shallower learn to swim pool) while SwimJamaica will be the primary Learn to Swim program at the facility. The group is seeking JA$5 million more to close the renovation budget - persons or companies who are interested in contributing to this community development project should contact the ASAJ President John Eyre (920-6230)

May 8, 2007 - The Tornadoes Swim Club won the Neville Alexander Memorial Swim Meet on the weekend. Tornadoes scored 3,941.50 points, followed by Y-Speedos with 3,542 points and Blue Seals with 1,516.50.....more

APRIL

April 11, 2007 - Carifta Swim Championships  finished yesterday after four days of outstanding swimming. The French Antilles won with 998.5 points, followed by Bahamas (943.5) and Trinidad (849.5). Jamaica came in fourth. Forty-two (42) new meet records were established....results

April 9, 2007 - Dameon Nicholas today swam 59.90 in a time trial 100M butterfly at the CARIFTA Swim Championship, therefore qualifying to represent Jamaica at the CCCAN championships later this year.

March 12, 2007 - As part of its preparation to host the 2007 CARIFTA Swimming Championships in April, the ASAJ must undertake some maintenance work on the facility. March 10, 2007 - Texas A & M Freshman Alia Atkinson (Jamaica and Pembroke Pines, Fla.) ended her first NCAA meet with an eighth-place finish in the consolation final of the 200-yard breaststroke. Atkinson, who scored 10 individual points for the Aggies at the meet, finished in a time of 2:15.19.....more

March 9, 2007 - Big 12 Newcomer of the Meet Alia Atkinson  (Texas A & M) grabbed first place in the NCAA Championships Consolation final of the 100-yard breaststroke. Atkinson duplicated her time of 1:00.87 swam during the morning session, defeating 2005 NCAA champion Caroline Bruce of Stanford in the process. Atkinson ends the year with but a single loss in the 100 breast, that coming during Friday’s prelims....more

FEBRUARY

February 27, 2007 - Brad Hamilton Leads Baylor School To State Championship. Brad Hamilton had an outstanding meet at the 2007 Tennessee State High School Swimming Championships in Nashville, Tennessee at the Tracy

Caulkins Aquatic Center. Brad won the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle in times of 20.70 and 45.15. Both of these times were with in hundredths of a second off of the Tennessee state record. Brad combined with teammates Greg Roop, Michael Vredeveld, and Jake Hora to win the 200 freestyle relay in a new school and state record time of 1:24.69. In the 400 freestyle relay, Brad, Greg, Nathan Vredeveld, and Josh Sosna combined to win the event in a new state record time of 3:08.30.

 

The Baylor School won the combined team championships, and won the boys team championship for a record 19th time, but it's first win since 1997. Baylor Head Coach Dan Flack was voted Mens Coach of the Year.

February 22, 2007 - Jamaica's Travis Forte, swimming for Florida State, clocked 20.94 in a time trial at the ACC Atlantic Coast Championships. Forte's time was just off the NCAA B cut of 20.18...more

 

February 18, 2007 - Tornadoes Swim Club successfully defended the Age Group trophy at the Walter Rodgers Age Group Championship which ended today. 'Y' Speedos was second and Blue Seals came third. 'Y' Speedos won the Masters trophy. Twenty (20) meet records were broken in this very exciting meet as the swimmers strive for qualifying times for the CARIFTA Championship....results

 

February 18, 2007 - The ASAJ will today host a Synchronized Swimming Judges Clinic at the Sports Development Foundation Conference Room. The judges are preparing for the 2007 CARIFTA Championships being hosted by Jamaica April 7-10. The Instructor will be Helen Eyre who is on FINA's "G" list of judges.

February 17, 2007 - Jamaica and Texas A&M Freshman Alia Atkinson today won the Big 12 200 Yard Breaststroke with a school record 2:10.89 and was was named Newcomer of the Meet with a sweep of both the 100 and 200-yard breaststrokes and a bronze in the 50-yard freestyle on Thursday night as well. OH, by the way Texas A&M won the Big 12 Conference Championships by 1 point!!....more

February 17, 2007 - Jamaica's Alia Atkinson, swimming for Texas A&M, won the 100-yards breaststroke at the Big 12 US Collegiate Championships, defeating three-time champion Elizabeth Tinnon with a time of 1:00.27. Atkinson has qualified for the NCAA Championship to be held in March. The Aggies hold a slight 651-633 edge over eight-time defending Big 12 champion University of Texas. Kansas is in third with 293.5 points followed by Missouri (268), Iowa State (221) and Nebraska (217.5)....more

February 14, 2007 - Jamaica's Alia Atkinson and her 5th ranked Texas A&M teammates face their biggest challenge of the season when they host the Big 12 Championships. The Championship is being held in the Student Rec, Center Natatorium, College Station Texas. Atkinson, a freshman, hopes to keep her college 100 Y Breaststroke unbeaten record intact when she faces Elizabeth Tinnon (Texas). Atkinson and Tinnon are ranked 2nd and 3rd in the USA in that event. February 14, 2007 - Jamaica's Club swimmers will today complete their preparations for the 2007 Walter Rogers Age Group Swimming Championships which will be held at the National Stadium pool February 15-18, 2007.  This is the final meet for swimmers to secure their place on Jamaica's 2007 CARIFTA Team

February 11, 2007 - Hillel Academy was the overall winner of the Prep/Primary section in the Mayberry Investment Swim Meet on Saturday. Sts Peter and Paul Prep was second and Mona Prep third. The top primary school was Naggo Head Primary, top boys team was Hillel Academy while the top girls team was Mona Prep.....results

January 30, 2007 - Mayberry Investment CEO Gary Peart today launched preparations for the 2007 Mayberry Investment Schools Swim Meet to be held at the National Stadium Pool February 9-10. Over 1100 Prep, Primary, High and University students are expected t enter the competition. At the Press Conference held at the Sports Development Foundation, Peart announced that in addition to the usual awards, a special prize will be given to each swimmer on the winning Primary School Team.

January 26, 2007 - Jamaica's Travis Forte representing Florida State finished third in the 200 Y Free Relay clocking 21.08 (24.51) on the anchor leg. He earlier timed 21.75 (25.29) in the 50 Y Free in an exhibition swim. He also swam 48.08 (55.70) to place eighth in the 100 Y Freestyle....more

January 25, 2007 - Freshman Alia Atkinson (Jamaica) continued her collegiate unbeaten streak in the 100-yard breaststroke with a spring-best time of 1:02.32. Atkinson also recorded a second NCAA consideration mark in winning the 200-yard breaststroke (2:15.30). After helping Texas A&M complete their first ever undefeated win, Atkinson is now preparing for the Big 12 Championships to be held February 14-17....more

January 26, 2007 - CCCAN President Orban Mendoza has named the members of the 2007-2010 CCCAN Technical Committees. Tomas Haces (Cuba) will chair the Swimming TC, Felix Calderon (Puerto Rico) the Diving TC, Irina Perez de Bros (Doninican Republic) the Synchronized Swimming TC while Eugenio Martinez (Cuba) chairs the Water Polo TC. January 19, 2007 - Texas A&M freshman Alia Atkinson (Jamaica) won her second 50 Y Freestyle of the season, hitting the wall in 23.69 to help defeat the Houston Cougars....more

January 17, 2007 - An all-male delegation of ten (10) swimmers from the Tornadoes Swim Club will depart on Thursday 18 January 2007 for Chattanooga, Tennessee to compete in the Baylor Swim Club TYR Invitational Swim Meet which will be held from  Friday, 19 January  to Sunday 21 January 2007...more

January 13, 2007 - Fifty Five volunteers today attend the first Swimming Judge Clinic to be held in 2007. ASAJ President John Eyre, who conducted the clinic, was delighted at the turnout noting the this bode well for CARIFTA 2007, which is being hosted by Jamaica, and the development of the ASAJ Judges Certification Programme. This Clinic covered the classroom training for timekeepers and basic meet management rules. The students will move onto the next phase of certification when they officiate at the Blue Seals Swim Meet scheduled to dive into action on January 19.

The next clinic will be hald on Jamuary 28. This is the best turnout to a judges Clinic

January 8, 2007 - The first of four (4) Clinics to train Swimming Judges in 2007 will be held on January 13th.
