DECEMBER

December 30, 2008 - A draft calendar for 2009 has been posted; listing the Karl Dalhouse meet as the first one for the new year. Clubs are reminded that the deadline for the annual ASAJ registration to participate in this meet is January 9, 2009.

December 25, 2008 - A holy and blessed Christmas greeting to you and your family, from the swimming fraternity.

December 22, 2008 - The exciting Christmas Open Swim Meet ended today with new individual meet records established in 33 events. Kendese Nangle accounted for 7 of the records, Dominic Walter and Timothy Wynter for 5 each, Brad Hamilton with 3 and Antoine Young, Octavia Gray and Shade Thaxter with 2 each. Tornadoes won the meet with 1036.5 points followed by Blue Seals (349) and y'Speedos (307)....results

December 21, 2008 - Tornadoes Swim Club continues to lead after two days of the Christmas Open Swim Meet. They have amassed 717.5 points, Blue Seals is second with 261 points and y'Speedos third (202 points)

December 20, 2008 - Tornadoes Swim Club is in the lead at the end of day 1 of the Christmas Open Swim Meet, a session in which 13 new individual meet records were established. Tornadoes has 380 points, followed by Blue Seals with 148 points and y'Speedos on 91.

December 20, 2008 - The Christmas Open Swim Meet springs into action this evening, with a number of our overseas based national representatives down to participate. Live results will be available throughout the meet.

December 16, 2008 - Please note that the format of the Christmas Open Swim Meet has been changed. All events in the meet will be swam as timed finals in the evenings, therefore there will be NO MORNING SESSIONS. ASAJ apologies for any inconvenience this late change may cause.

December 15, 2008 - ASAJ has announced the swimmers invited to the ASAJ Christmas 2008 Camp to be conducted by Rob Emary of Broward Aquatics Swim Club from December 27 to December 30. Selection is based on national squad members and top5 ranked swimmers in an event....invitees....schedule

December 10, 2008 - ASAJ will be hosting 2008 Stroke Clinic II, to be conducted by Rob Emary of Broward Aquatics Swim Club, on Monday December 29. Space is limited so please register early next week....more

December 4, 2008 - Entrance to the National Stadium Pool on December 5 and December 11 will be via Gate E-1 (opposite the police station). Parking will be available only by the netball courts.

NOVEMBER

November 29, 2008 - Hillel Prep swept most of the major trophies at the Complan Prep/Primary Schools Swim Meet today. They were crowned overall champions, winning the Complan Shield with 595 points, from Mona (257) and St Peter & Paul (229). Hillel was also the top Girls Team and top Boys Team. The champion Primary School was Excelsior, laying claim to the inaugural Matthew Hilton trophy....results

November 28, 2008 - Immaculate Conception High School successfully defended the female section of the ISSA High Schools/Universities Swim Meet today. Winner of the male  section was Wolmers Boys School, while University of the West Indies won the university section....results

November 26, 2008 - St Andrews High School won the female section of the ASAJ High Schools Waterpolo competition and Campion College won the male equivalent. Wolmers Girls were second and Holy Childhood third in the female section while Wolmers Boys A and St. Georges College were second and third respectively in the male section....scores

November 8, 2008 - Lic. Javier Ostos Mora of the Mexican Federation, and a Honorary Life President of FINA passed away recently at the age of 92. He served as President of FINA from 1968 to 1972 again from 1976 to 1980....more

November 8, 2008 - At the end of session one of the Walter Lowi Sprint classic, y'Speedos is in the lead with 357 points, followed by Tornadoes (313 points) and Blue Seals (115)....results

November 1, 2008 - As the ASAJ prepares for the international age group calender in 2009 (Carifta Games - April 2008 in Aruba and CCCAN - July 2008 in Colombia), we will be publishing rankings in each event for ages 10 - 12, 13 - 14 and 15 - 17 after each local meet.  The rankings will be based on times done from 1st October 2008 through to Carifta selection, and  from 1st January 2009 through to CCCAN selection....rankings

Please note the age group 10 - 12 will be till December 2008; as of January 2009 it will become 11 - 12.  The A times shown for 10 year old swimmers is based on the 10 & Under A times.

Overseas based swimmers are invited to submit times on the
swimjamaica.com website and copy to asaj@cwjamaica.com.  Yards times will be converted and included for ranking purposes, however these will not be accepted for qualification for the meets.

OCTOBER

October 31, 2008 - As a result of the inclement weather, the Open Water Classic and Fun Day scheduled for Sunday (Nov 2) has been postponed due to its effect on the course. The new date will be announced shortly.

October 30, 2008 - ASAJ is pleased to announce the national squads for the period October 2008 - February 2009. The training schedule to December 2008 for local swimmers is also available.

October 30, 2008 - Updated results have been posted for  the Dean Martin Memorial Meet. Corrections were made to event 75 (Girls 13 & O 200M Free Relay) and the time-trial event is now included.

October 26, 2008 - Some outstanding performances were done at the Dean Martin Memorial Meet which concluded today. Five swimmers achieved AAAA standards and twenty-two did at least one AAA times. AAAA achievers were Joseph Black in 8 & U 50M Free, Jason Craig Burnett in 11-12 50M Free, Kevaughn Campbell in 9-10 50M Breast, Robert Marshall in 9-10 50M Free and 50M Breast, and Steven Moodie in 13-14 50M Free.

October 26, 2008 - Tornadoes Swim Club successfully defended the championship trophy in the Dean Martin Memorial Meet, amassing 628 points, just ahead of y'Speedos with 600 points. Blue Seals finished in third place with 279 points. Tornadoes were also the winners of the Masters competition with 40 points, followed by y'Speedos with 36 and Marlins 27.....results

October 25, 2008 - y'Speedos took over the lead  at the end of day 2 of the Dean Martin Memorial Meet. y'Speedos finished with 345 points, just ahead of Tornadoes with 338. Blue Seals is in third with 160 points....results

October 25, 2008 - Tornadoes Swim Club continue to hold a slim lead at lunchtime on day 2 of the Dean Martin Memorial Meet. Tornadoes has 169 points followed by y'Speedos (161) and Blue Seals (65)....results

October 24, 2008 - Tornadoes Swim Club is in the lead after day 1 of the Dean Martin Memorial Meet. Tornadoes has 19 points followed by y'Speedos (9) and Electric Eels (2)....results

October 22, 2008 - FINA will be streaming the FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup in Syndey live on the internet....more

October 18, 2008 - On Day 3 of swimming at the Commonwealth Youth Games, Dominic Walter did 2:22.06 (12th) in 200M Fly while Kendese Nangle finished in 31.85 (9th) and Alexia Royal-Eatmon 32.64 (13th), both in the 50M Back. As first alternate, Kendese was later promoted to the finals.

October 16, 2008 - On Day 2 of swimming at the Commonwealth Youth Games, Dominic Walter finished in 2:28.38 (16th) in the men 200M IM, Alexia Royal-Eatmon did 2:40.38 (13th) in the female equivalent and 1:11.35 (17th) in the 100M Fly while Kendese Nangle finished in 2:37.02 (13th) in the 200M Back.

October 16, 2008 - On Day 1 of swimming at the  Commonwealth Youth Games, Dominic Walter did 2:05.88 (19th) in the 200M Freesyle, Kendese Nangle 30.72 (13th) in the 50M Fly and 1:09.67 (again 13th) in the 100M Back while Alexia Royal-Eatmon finished in 1:13.13 (16th) in the 100M Back.

October 10, 2008 - Three swimmers and Coach Walter departed yesterday for Pune, India to participate in the Commonwealth Youth Games, swimming scheduled for October 15-17. The three young swimmers representing Jamaica are Kendese Nangle, Alexia Royal-Eatmon and Dominic Walter.

October 4, 2008 - Congratulations to Ramon James, national swimmer, on being named Athlete of the Year for the University of the West Indies. Congratulations also to Janelle Atkinson-Wignall who is nominated for the Courtney Walsh Awards this year

October 4, 2008 - ASAJ will be hosting its first Open Water Swim and Funday on November 2 at Hellshire/Fort Clarence Beaches in St. Catherine....flier

October 3, 2008 - The Dean Martin Memorial meet will be held as scheduled at the end of this month. The summons will be posted shortly, but please note that the deadline for ASAJ registration is 4:00pm today Friday October 3 and entries submitted by next Friday October 10

October 3, 2008 - The development meet scheduled for Saturday October 4 has been postponed because the Stadium facilities are closed for the Gala for the Olympians. The new date is tentatively set for Friday October 10, starting at 5:00pm.

SEPTEMBER

September 28, 2008 - The President of the ASAJ today launched the Matthew Hilton Foundation and rebranded the Primary Schools trophy during the Service of Thanksgiving for the National Swimmer. The non-profit foundation will promote swimming and reading in primary schools....ASAJ Tribute

September 12, 2008 - The Swimming Association and wider fraternity is mourning the death of Matthew Hilton who died yesterday. Matthew, a member of the national team, developed medical complications following regular training and died while receiving attention at the nearby hospital.  Our sympathy goes to his family - mother Angella Robinson and sister Nandi....more

AUGUST

August 17, 2008 - As the curtains come down on swimming at the Beijing Olympics, Jamaica's three participants can be pleased with their performances as they each recorded best times and established national records. Alia Atkinson swam 2:29.53 in the female 200M Breaststroke, Jevon Atkinson clocked 22.83 in the male 50M freestyle and Natasha Moodie stopped the clock at 25.95 in the female equivalent.

JULY

July 19, 2008 - Jamaica's team performed well in the 50M fly events at the Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships, as Alia Atkinson and Brad Hamilton established national senior records, and Kendese Nangle a national 13-14 girls age group record. Alia completed the race in 28.06, bettering her previous mark of 28.87. Brad swam 25.96 to better the old record of 26.04. Kendese's time of 29.57 was faster than her previous record of 29.74. Breanna Roman recorded 1:01.86 in the 11-12 girls 100M free to erase Alia's record of 1:02.64.

July 19, 2008 - The events scheduled for today at the Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships has been changed to timed finals, and swam in the morning session. There will be no evening session today.

July 19, 2008 - Kingston has been experiencing rains overnight, but we plan to continue with the Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships this morning as we have noticed an improvement in the weather.

July 18, 2008 - Jamaica gained 3 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals in the rain shortened first day of the Caribbean Island Swimming Championships.

July 17, 2008 - The 18 & Over male waterpolo team began Jamaica's quest at the Caribbean Island Swimming Championships with a 15-5 win over Barbados.

July 14, 2008 - The final practice session for swimming volunteers for the Caribbean Island Swimming Championships (CISC) will be held at the National Stadium on Wednesday July 16, starting at 5:30pm. All swimming volunteers must attend.

July 3, 2008 - All swimming volunteers for the Caribbean Island Swimming Championships (CISC) - stroke and turn judges, marshalls, timekeepers, basket carriers, timer/computer operators, etc - must attend a rehearsal at the National Stadium on Saturday July 5, starting at 9:30am sharp.

June 14, 2008 - Hillel retained the Championship trophy today as the curtains came down on the Nestle Icecream Championships. Immaculate was second and Sts Peter and Paul third. Immaculate was the champion girls team and Hillel the champion boys team. The top primary school's trophy went to Naggo Head....results

June 4, 2008 - The response to the ASAJ  Stroke Clinic on June 15 with Coach Bob Emary has been overwhelming and all available spaces have been taken. We thank you for your support.

June 2, 2008 - Tornadoes club won both the Championship and Masters Trophies at the Neville Alexander Memorial meet this weekend. Tornadoes ended the meet with 901 points, followed by Y-Speedos Swim Club on 664 points and Blue Seals with 497....results

May 31, 2008 - During the second session of the Neville Alexander Memorial meet, Y-Speedos Swim Club extended their lead over Tornadoes Swim Club. At the end of the session, y-Speedos had 245 points, Tornadoes 213 with Blue Seals Swim Club third on 124 points....results

May 30, 2008 - At the end on day 1 of the Neville Alexander Memorial meet, Y-Speedos and Tornadoes swim clubs are in a tight fight for supremacy. Y-Speedos is in the lead with 86 points, with Tornadoes one point behind with 85 points. Blue Seals swim club is in third with 62 points...results

May 26, 2008 - Leah Martindale Stancil will be conducting a training camp for competitive swimmers in July (see calendar for details). Mrs. Martindale Stancil held a successful clinic in Kingston last year with the national squad.

May 26, 2008 - National Squad members, please note. The 50M pool is again available so regular training (as per schedule) will resume on Wednesday May 28th.

May 20, 2008 - The next training session for Swimming Technical Officials will be held on Saturday, May 24th in the Audio Visual Room of the JDF Air Wing, Up Park Camp starting at 4:00pm.

May 15, 2008 - The ASAJ yesterday announced qualifying standards and times for swimmers wishing to participate in the FINA World Youth Swimming Championships to be held in Mexico in July...standards ...times

April 29, 2008 - The training schedule for all national squads for May and June has been posted....schedule

April 29, 2008 - Island Aquatics participated in the Gold Coast Synchronised Swimming International Competition (Florida, USA) on March 29-30 and returned with six medals (2 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze). An unattached swimmer from Portland also participated in the meet and won 2 gold medals.

MARCH

March 31, 2008 - Jamaica finished four in both points (578) and medals (35) at the just concluded CARIFTA Swimming Championships. Breanna Roman (50.50 points) won the High Point Award for 11-12 girls and Victoria Ho (58 points) did the same for 13-14 girls. The competition was won by French Antilles, followed by Trinidad & Tobago and Bahamas.

March 31, 2008 - Following outstanding performances at CARIFTA Swimming, the national records have been updated. Dominic Walter established new national senior record in the 1500M Free, erasing the previous mark set by Andrew Phillips in 1978.

March 31, 2008 - In the final night of competition at the CARIFTA Swimming Championships, Jamaica earned 2 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze medals to finish with a total of 35 medals. Gold medal winners were Brittany Kenny (13-14 Girls 200M back) and the 13-14 Girls 200M free relay (R Hall, V Ho, D Banks, K Nangle)

March 30, 2008 - Jamaica will be in 17 events in Day 4 finals tonight at the CARIFTA Swimming Championships. Leading the charge for gold medals are Octivia Gray and Brittany Kenny going to the finals as best qualifiers in the 11-12 girls 100M breast and 13-14 girls 200M back respectively....more

March 29, 2008 - Jamaica had their best night at the CARIFTA Swimming Championships in a while as they gained 6 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals during the finals of Day 2. March 24, 2008 - The curtains came down this evening at the CARIFTA Waterpolo Championships, after four days of competition in which twenty-two games were played in three categories.....medals

March 24, 2008 - The 18&Under female team got the silver medal at CARIFTA Waterpolo, in a game won by Trinidad & Tobago. Gabrielle Mesquita scored both goals in the 16-2 score line. In the earlier game, the 18&Under male team defeated Bahamas 12-3 to gain the bronze medal. Goals were scored by Justin Taylor (3), Matthew Williams and Akua Walters (2 each) and 1 each from Jonathan Hernould, Stefan Nelson, Nicholas Jones, Zawdie Coke and Adrian Fisher

March 24, 2008 - The 18&Under female team won their match this morning against Curacao in CARIFTA Waterpolo, beating  them 7-4, with goals from Gabrielle Mesquita (3), Kristen Jones (2), Nicholene Bryan (1) and Rashida Brown (1). In the earlier match, the 15&Under male team lost to Trinidad & Tobago, going down 4-22. Goal scorers were Corey Richards (3) and David Millwood.

March 23, 2008 - The 18&Under female team was leading by 2 goals at the start of the match against Trinidad & Tobago in CARIFTA Waterpolo, but was unable to hold the lead and ended up losing 3-15. Bernadine Christie, Leigh-Anne Lewars and Gabrielle Mesquita scored 1 goal each.

March 23, 2008 - Jamaica had its first win in CARIFTA Waterpolo when the 18&Under male team beat Bahamas 13-5 with 6 goals from Justin Taylor, 2 from Jonathan Hernould and 1 each from Matthew Mason, Matthew Williams, Zawdie Coke, Adrian Fisher and Akua Walters. In the earlier match, the 15&Under male team lost to Curacao 27-4. Goal scorers were Corey Richards (2), David Millwood (1) and Jonathan Harris (1).

March 22, 2008 - The 18&Under male team put up a valiant fight but still went down 6-10 to Trinidad & Tobago in the most competitive game so far at CARIFTA Waterpolo. Justin Taylor scored 3 goals with 1 each from Matthew Williams, Akua Walters and Jonathan Hernould. In earlier afternoon games, the 15&Under males lost 4-19 to Trinidad & Tobago (Scorers were Jonathan Harris - 2, Corey Richards - 1, Ryan Johnson - 1) and the 18&Under females went down to Curacao 7-15 (Goals from Bernadine Christie - 2, Gabrielle Mesquita - 2, Kristen Jones, Ashley Kumst and Leigh Anne Lewers - 1 each)

March 22, 2008 - The 18&Under girls lost to Trinidad & Tobago in CARIFTA Waterpolo this morning. Final score was Trinidad 18 to Jamaica's 2 (Christina Martells and Gabrielle Mesquita). All three Jamaican teams will be in action this afternoon

March 21, 2008 - Goals from Justin Taylor (4), Nicholas Jones (1) and Jonathan Hernould (1) were not enough to prevent the 18&Under male team from going down 16-6 to Curacao in CARIFTA Waterpolo. Earlier in the day, the 15&Under male team lost 26-4 to Trinidad & Tobago. Goal scorers were Corey Richards (3) and David Thwaites (1)....more

March 4, 2008 - Jamaican Brad Hamilton wins 4 Gold Medals at the Eastern Interscholastic Swimming and Diving Championships at the LaSalle University Kirk Natatorium from Feb 22-23....more

March 4, 2008 - Jamaican swimmers Alia Atkinson and Todd Johnson were in blistering form representing their schools at swim meets this past week. Alia won four gold medals for Texas A&M while Todd was a double gold medalist for Hamilton College. February 17, 2008 - The curtains came down yesterday on the Walter Rodgers Age Group Championships with Tornadoes winning both the Age Group and Masters sections. y-Speedos was second in both sections and Blue Seals third in the Age Group.....results

February 16, 2008 - In session 3 of the Walter Rodgers Age Group Championships today, Victoria Ho swam 4:47.86 in the 13-14 Girls 400M Free to break the meet record that was set by Belinda Phillips in 1973. The points standing at the end of the session were Tornadoes (3102), y-Speedos (2449) and Blue Seals (971).....results

February 15, 2008 - Eleven meet records have been broken so far in the Walter Rodgers Age Group Championships, as the swimmers compete for a spot on the CARIFTA team. Tornadoes (2092) has extended its lead over y-Speedos (1419) and Blue Seals (648).....results

February 15, 2008 - Tornadoes Swim Club (857) are the leaders after day 1 of the Walter Rodgers Age Group Championships, followed by y-Speedos (492), Blue Seals (267) and Electric Eels (141).....more.....results

February 6, 2008 - The Prep/Primary section of the Mayberry Schools Meet will be held on March 1, 2008 instead of February 23th as previously scheduled. The change is necessary as the pool will be closed to facilitate the Gibson Relays. The High/University section remains on February 22.

February 3, 2008 - The curtains came down today on an exciting Karl Dalhouse Swim Meet, in which eleven new meet records were established. In the end, Tornadoes (905 points) were declared age-group winners from y-Speedos (901) and Stingray (710). y-Speedos won the masters section with 99 points....results

February 3, 2008 - y-Speedos Swim Club (615) has squeezed into the lead after day 2 of the Karl Dalhouse Swim Meet, narrowly beating Tornadoes by 13 points. Four new meet records have been established so far.....results

February 2, 2008 - This morning's session of the Karl Dalhouse Swim Meet was very exciting with the top three teams continually exchanging the lead. The session ended in favour of Tornadoes, from y-Speedos and Stingrays respectively.....results

February 2, 2008 - Cayman's Stingray Swim Club took an early lead after day 1 of the Karl Dalhouse Swim Meet, amassing 119 points. They are followed by Tornadoes and y-Speedos Swim Clubs with 101 and 76 points respectively....results

January 28, 2008 - The 13th renewal of the y-Speedos Club sponsored Karl Dalhouse swim meet kicks off on Friday February 1, 2008 at the National Stadium. Twelve teams, including two from overseas, have entered for what is expected to be an exciting competition....more
