December 21, 2009 - Tornadoes Swim Club won the Christmas Open Championships, scoring 1001 points. y-Speedos Swim Club (521) was second and Blue Seals Swim Club (227) third.

December 20, 2009 - Tornadoes swim club leads after day 1 of the Christmas Open Championships. They have amassed 690 points, followed by y-Speedos on 363 and Blue Seals with 170....results

December 7, 2009 - Michelle-Ann Gabbadon, Shannon March and Tashna Smith-Edwards of Island Aquatics Synchro club won the  Prime Minister's Youth Award for Excellence in Sport. They had represented Jamaica in synchronized swimming at the Junior Panam Games....more....pictures- 1  2

December 3, 2009 - Congratulations to Michelle-Ann Gabbadon, Shannon March and Tashna Smith-Edwards of Island Aquatics Synchro club on being nominated for the National Youth Awards, resulting from their participation in the Junior Panam Games. The awards ceremony takes place at Emancipation Park on December 6th.

December 2, 2009 - Corrections were made to the results of the ASAJ Prep/Primary Schools and ISSA High Schools and Universities/Colleges swim meets. The changes do not alter the teams' final placings.

November 29, 2009 - Stella Maris won the Championship trophy at the ASAJ Prep/Primary Schools Swim Meet. Hillel came second and Mona third. Top girls team was also Stella Maris while Hillel took the honours among the boys. Excelsior was the top primary school....results

November 29, 2009 - Immaculate, Wolmers Boys and UWI all successfully defended their hold on the Championship trophies in the ISSA High Schools and Universities/Colleges Swim Meet. St Andrew was second and Campion third in the girls section and Campion second and KC third in the boys equivalent. CMI was second in the universities/colleges section....results

November 17, 2009 - y'Speedos Swim Club (692.5 points) was the winner of the 2009 Walter Lowi Sprint Classic held at the UWI pool this past weekend. Tornadoes Swim Club (652.5) was second and Marlins Swim Club (220) came in third...results

OCTOBER

October 27, 2009 - The FINA Coaches Development Clinic starts tomorrow, Wednesday October 28 at 5:30pm. All swim coaches should try to attend, as the skills learnt will enhance existing swimming programmes. Coaches registering on that day should arrive by 5:15pm to facilitate a prompt start to the clinic....more

October 24, 2009 - Tornadoes Swim Club won the age group section of the Dean Martin Memorial AB Swim Meet, scoring 542 points. y'Speedos Swim Club (450) was second and Blue Seals Swim Club (174) third. Timothy Wynter had an outstanding meet, achieving T16 standard in 100M Fly (1:06.88) and 200M Back (2:27.90) and 'AAAA' in three other events. Sidrell Williams and Antoine Young also achieved 'AAAA' times. y'Speedos was champion Masters team.

October 23, 2009 - Tornadoes Swim Club continues to lead after two days of the Dean Martin Memorial AB Swim Meet. They are on 149 points, ahead of y-Speedos on 104 and Flying Fish with 64.

October 23, 2009 - At the end of day 1, Tornadoes Swim Club (52) took the early lead in defense of the championship trophy in the Dean Martin Memorial AB Swim Meet. y-Speedos Swim Club (24) is second and Flying Fish Ambassadors (19) third.

October 13, 2009 - The FINA Coaches Development Clinic will be held at the Jamaica Olympic Association. Concurrently, participants will have the opportunity to achieve ASCA International Level 1 and/or Level 2 certification at an additional cost....more

October 12, 2009 - Synchro Stars pair of Jada Brown and Breann Campbell scored 49.219 in the 12 & Under Duet at the 1st Jamaican Synchronized Swimming Championships. Earlier in the evening, Breann Campbell scored 48.226 in the solo event....results

October 12, 2009 - The revised summons for the Dean Martin Memorial Meet has been posted to the calendar. This meet will be held at UWI pool from Thursday October 22 to Saturday October 24 with entry deadline set at October 15.  Seats will be limited, so patrons are asked to take along a chair if possible.

October 9, 2009 - The 1st Jamaican Synchronized Swimming Championships was held this afternoon at Bournemouth Bath. Jamaica was represented by two 10-12 age group swimmers from Synchro Stars club, Jada Brown and Breann Campbell.

October 7, 2009 - We can now confirm that the ASAJ Distance Development Meet this weekend will be held at the UWI pool. We ask swimmers to arrive early for positive check-in and to facilitate a prompt start.

September 30, 2009 - The 2010 USMS National Long Course Championship will be held in San Juan, Puerto Rico on August 8-13, 2010. All master swimmers from the Americas are welcome to participate....more

September 30, 2009 - Training sessions for all national squads are scheduled for Tuesdays 4 - 6pm and Fridays 3:30 - 5:30pm at UWI (entrance fee $100) and Wednesdays 4:50 - 6:45am at YMCA (entrance fee $70)

September 24, 2009 - The Amateur Swimming Association of Jamaica presents a FINA Coaching Clinic in Kingston, from October 28 to November 1, 2009. All local swim coaches, and those from the wider Caribbean region are encouraged to attend this swim coaches development event....memo....flier

September 20, 2009 - The swimming squads to February 2010 have been named. Training starts next Wednesday, September 23 at 5am at the YMCA pool. Swimmers will be required to pay the $70 entry fees....squads

August 1, 2009 - Natasha Moodie equaled her own national senior record in the 50M Freestyle on Day 7 of the FINA World Swimming Championships, stopping the clock in 25.95 secs....m

JULY

July 31, 2009 - Brad Hamilton establishes another national senior record on Day 6 of the FINA World Swimming Championships. He finished the 100M Butterfly in 56.56, erasing the old mark of 57.07. He had earlier swam a personal best time of 23.87 in the 50M Freestyle. Jonathan Wong also has a personal best time of 24.40 in that event. In the 50M Butterfly, Kendese Nangle was just off her personal best, finishing the race in 30.18. Jamaica will have its last swim when Natasha Moodie dives in the 50M Freestyle on Day 7....more

July 30, 2009 - Natasha Moodie had her first swim on Day 5 of the FINA World Swimming Championships, returning a personal best time of 57.71 (seed time 59.36) in the 100M Freestyle.  Jamaica will be well represented on day 6 as Brad Hamilton and Jonathan Wong will compete in the 50M Freestyle, Kendese Nangle in the 50M Butterfly and Brad Hamilton return later in the 100M Fly....more

July 29, 2009 - As world and championship records continue to fall at the 13th FINA World Swimming Championships, FINA Bureau announces new rules for swimsuits. Effective 2010, suits will be restricted to "textiles" and cannot go below the knee. Men suits cannot go above the navel while women suits cannot go above the neck or beyond the shoulders....more

July 29, 2009 - Jonathan Wong swam a personal best time of 53.35 in the 100M Freestyle on Day 4 of the FINA World Swimming Championships. In the same event, Brad Hamilton stopped the clock at 52.37. In the 50M Backstroke, Kendese Nangle finished the race in 31.53 secs. Natasha Moodie will have her first race, 100M Freestyle on Day 5....more

July 28, 2009 - Ramon Walton mined gold medal in the 50M Backstroke in the 17 - 19 age group at the Florida Gold Coast Junior Olympics held in Plantation, Florida from July 23 - 26. He also won silver in the 100M Backstroke. Dominic Walter won bronze in the 15 - 16 200M Butterfly while Victoria Ho just missed out on the medals, placing fourth in the 15 -16 200M Freestyle, 400M Freestyle and 200M IM....more

July 28, 2009 - Brad Hamilton smashed another national senior record on Day 3 of the FINA World Swimming Championships, this time in the 50M Breaststroke. He finished the race in 29.40, erasing his own previous record of 29.91. He will again be in the pool tomorrow (along with Jonathan Wong) in the 100M Freestyle. July 27, 2009 - Two Jamaicans were in action on Day 2 of the FINA World Swimming Championships. Jonathan Wong clocked 1:58.27 (seed time 2:01.81) in the 200M Freestyle and Kendese Nangle finished the 100M Backstroke in 1:08.37 (seed time 1:08.19). Brad Hamilton will be in the pool again tomorrow in the 50M Breaststroke....more

July 26, 2009 - Brad Hamilton shattered the national senior record in 50M Butterfly at the FINA World Swimming Championships. He finished the race in 25.68, bettering the old mark of 25.90. Kendese Nangle and Jonathan Wong will be in action today....more

July 23, 2009 - Kendese Nangle, Natasha Moodie, Brad Hamilton and Jonathan Wong will be representing Jamaica at the FINA World Championships now underway in Rome. The championships include all aquatic disciplines, but Jamaica is participating only in competitive swimming. That program starts on Sunday July 26th....more

July 20, 2009 - The ASAJ congratulates Rohan Johnson, member of the senior national squad, on being named to the 2009 Southeastern Conference (SEC) Academic Honor Roll. Rohan is a freshman at the University of Kentucky and was one of twelve swimmers from that institution on the list....more

July 19, 2009 - y-Speedos, with 64 points, was the champion team at the ASAJ Open Water Classic 2009 today at Lyssons Beach in St Thomas.  Tornadoes (45) was second and Blue Seals (34) third. Swimmers participated over distances of 1K and 2K....results

July 13, 2009 - Tornadoes won the LIME Tornadoes Invitational Swim Meet, followed by y-Speedos and Blue Seals. Eleven new meet records were established. Tornadoes was praised for hosting an enjoyable meet at this new location.

July 11, 2009 - Tornadoes regained the lead in the LIME Tornadoes Invitational Swim Meet, after trailing y-Speedos for most of the day. At the end of session 3, Tornadoes has 905 points, followed by y-Speedos on 753 points and Blue Seals with 207....results

July 10, 2009 - Tornadoes (137 points) took the lead after day 1 of the Tornadoes Invitational Swim Meet. y-Speedos (49) is second and Flying Fish (29) third.  The meet is been held at the UWI pool which has been temporarily adjusted to 50M...results

JUNE

June 30, 2009 - Island Aquatics Synchro, in association with the Amateur Swimming Association of Jamaica, will be hosting the 1st Jamaica Synchronized Swimming Invitational Championships at Bournemouth Bath in October. This is the first such event in the English-speaking Caribbean.... summons....invitation....pool facility

June 29, 2009 - The long anticipated ASAJ Open Water Classic will be held on Sunday July 19th at Lyssons Beach in St. Thomas. It is open to swimmers 11 years and over. This event promises to be a fun day for the family....summons

June 29, 2009 - CCCAN Congress has awarded Cuba its bid to host 2010 CISC in Havana; Guatemala the 2010 CAMEX and the Dominican Republic the right to host the 2011 CCCAN in Santo Domingo. Aruba lost its bid to host the 2010 CISC.

June 17, 2009 - Hillel Prep were the champion team at the Nestle Ice Cream Schools Meet, scoring 1025 points, with Stella Maris (874) second and Sts Peter and Paul (719) third. The top primary school was Excelsior Primary. Stella Maris was the top female team and Hillel the top male team....results

June 6, 2009 - The ASAJ hosted its first Pre-Masters/ Masters only meet at Bournemouth Bath today. It was enjoyed by both the swimmers and spectators. Outstanding performances came from Renee Armstrong, Sofia Torres, Christa Gore, Wendy Lee, Alexandra Consten, Nemardo Singleton, Ewan Allen, Allan Marsh and Lemone Lowe....results

May 31, 2009 - The summons for the Nestle Ice Cream Prep/Primary Schools swim meet has been modified. The entry limit per swimmer has been increased to 5 events, including relays.

May 31, 2009 - Tornadoes Swim Club was the champion team at the Neville Alexander Memorial meet. They amassed 1218.5 points to 1077 by y'Speedos and 438.5 by Blue Seals. This is the first meet hosted by the ASAJ at this location, and the facilities exceeded expectations...results

May 19, 2009 - The summons for the Neville Alexander Memorial meet (May 30-31) and the 1st ASAJ Pre-Masters/ Masters Development meet (June 6) have been added to the Calendar. Both meets will be held at Bournemouth Bath.

May 16, 2009 - The summons for the Nestle Ice Cream Prep/Primary Schools swim meet is added to the Calendar. The meet will take place on June 12&13 at Bournemouth Bath.

May 10, 2009 - It was an enjoyable morning at the Tornadoes Open Water swim on Saturday. Winners were Alexandra Beckford and Timothy Wynter in the 10-12 1K, Raynae Hall and Shaun James in the 13 & Over 2K and Deborah Larder and Peter McConnell in the masters 1K...results

May 4, 2009 - Tornadoes Swim Club will be hosting an Open Water Swim at the Marine Lab in Discovery Bay on Saturday May 9th. It is open to all swimmers, and they can participate over distances of 1Km or 2Km...summons

May 3, 2009 - Hillel Prep were the overall champion team at the Burger King/YMCA swim meet, scoring 405 points. Sts Peter and Paul (323) was second, and Immaculate (177.5) third. Immaculate won the Girls' section and Hillel the Boys'. Excelsior was the top primary  school....results

APRIL

April 23, 2009 - Effective May 1, all clubs, schools and learn-to-swim teams wishing to use an ASAJ managed facility must complete and submit an application form which will become  a binding contract between ASAJ and the lessee for the required period.

April 20, 2009 - Jamaica ended their performance at the CARIFTA Swimming Championships,  winning 6 more medals (3 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze) on the last day. Gold medals came from Danielle Boothe in the 11-12 girls 100M breaststroke, Timothy Wynter in the 11-12 boys 200M backstroke and Brittany Kenny in the 13-14 girls 200M backstroke....more....results

April 19 2009 - Jamaica increased their medal tally to 26  at the end of day 3 of the CARIFTA Swimming Championships,  winning 2 silver and 2 bronze medals on the penultimate day of competition....more

April 18, 2009 - Jamaica won an additional eleven medals (3 gold, 6 silver and 2 bronze) on day 2 of the CARIFTA Swimming Championships. Gold medal winners were Danielle Boothe in the 11-12 girls 50M Butterfly and the 11-12 boys (Wynter, Young, Williams, Brown) and 13-14 girls (Kenny, Gray, Royal-Eatmon, Nangle) 400M medley relays....more

April 17, 2009 - President John Eyre has confirmed that the stadium pool will be closed on May 1, 2009 to undertake repairs to the water delivery system. Effective on that day also, new rules will be implemented at all ASAJ managed pools, aimed at maximizing usage and improving safety at the facilities.

April 17, 2009 - Jamaica won eleven medals (2 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze) on day 1 of the CARIFTA Swimming Championships. Gold medal performances, which also set new games records, came from Danielle Boothe in the 11-12 girls 200M Breaststroke and Timothy Wynter in the 11-12 boys 50M back....more

April 16, 2009 - The CARIFTA Swimming Championships begins today in Aruba, with preliminaries starting at 8:00am local time. The host country is offering live broadcast of the event on their website....more

April 16, 2009 - Jamaica's 18 & Under women team returned from the CARIFTA Waterpolo Championships with the bronze medal....more

April 11, 2009 - Aruba, the host country for next weekend's CARIFTA Swimming Championships will provide results and possibly live streaming of events at their website, www.arubaswimming.com. The psych sheets are now available on the site.

April 5, 2009 - The national male waterpolo team is now in Kuwait, participating in the 2nd FINA World Men Water  Polo Development Trophy 2009. The competition is open to countries with promise, but not yet at World or Olympics level....more....team

March 24, 2009 - National representative, Alia Atkinson helped her school, Texas A & M to eighth place in NCAA Championships this past weekend, with a personal best, and seventh fastest in NCAA history in finishing second in the 200 Yards Breaststroke event in a time of 2:06.99. She was beaten by the Beijing Olympic winner, one of only two persons who have ever swam faster in NCAA competition....more

March 20, 2009 - ASAJ Executive Council ratified waterpolo and synchronized swimming teams for CARIFTA Championships to be held in April....more

March 13, 2009 - ASAJ announced the team for CARIFTA Swimming Championships to be hosted by Aruba in April and also named the national squads in training for the next six months.

February 22, 2009 - Tornadoes successfully defended both the Age Group Champion and Masters Trophies at the Walter Rodgers Age Group Championship. In the Age Group competition, Tornadoes scored 1612 from y-Speedos on 1410.5 and Blue Seals with 670.5. Tornadoes scored 84 to y-Speedos 36 in the Masters section....results

February 21, 2009 - The ASAJ mourns the death of Colonel Ken Barnes. Colonel Barnes was an active member of the swimming fraternity, and served as President of the Association for many years in the 1970s. Our condolences is extended to the family.

February 21, 2009 - Tornadoes (1201) extended their lead over y-Speedos (944.5) during session 4 of the Walter Rodgers Age Group Championship. Stingrays (506) are third....results

February 21, 2009 - After another exciting session at the Walter Rodgers Age Group Championship, in which three new meet records and one national age group record were established, Tornadoes continue to lead with 793 points, from y-Speedos 645.5 and Stingrays 402 ....results

February 20, 2009 - National representative Danielle Boothe continued her good form, smashing the 11 - 12 national age group record in 50M Breaststroke during session 2 of the Walter Rodgers Age Group Championship.  At the end of Day 2, Tornadoes had 506 points, y-Speedos 271 and Stingrays 247 ....results

February 20, 2009 - Adi Atkinson, who died earlier this week, often represented Jamaica and his club - ySpeedos, in international swim meets. He was a great breast stroke swimmer and still holds the national 11-12 age group records for 100M and 200M Breaststroke....picture

February 19, 2009 - Tornadoes Swim Club leads after the first session of the Walter Rodgers Age Group Championship, having scored 215 points. Stingray Swim Club of Cayman (86) is second and y-Speedos Swim Club third with 85. Five meet records were broken, with Danielle Boothe of Stingray accounting for two....results....report

February 18, 2009 - ASAJ is saddened by the death of Adi Atkinson, who died following the plane crash during a pilot training session. Adi is the brother of national Olympian Alia Atkinson, and had represented Jamaica at regional swimming championships. Our thoughts are with the family at this special time....more

February 17, 2009 - Alia Atkinson, swimming for her school Texas A & M, was named the US National Collegiate Swimmer of the week, following wins in both breaststroke events in Florida last weekend....more

February 8, 2009 - y-Speedos triumphed at the Karl Dalhouse Memorial Swim Meet, defeating Tornadoes by 23 points. In the end, y-Speedos was able to amass 1134 points to Tornadoes' 1111. The tables were reversed in the Masters Competition with Tornadoes securing 84 points to win from y-Speedos with 36....results

February 7, 2009 - Tornadoes (718) fought their way back into first place in the Karl Dalhouse Memorial Swim Meet at the end of Day 2, and is leading y-Speedos (716) by just 2 points. Blue Seals is third with 393....results

February 7, 2009 - After 2 sessions of the Karl Dalhouse Memorial Swim Meet. y-Speedos Swim Club (501) has taken over the lead from Tornadoes (478). Blue Seals is third with 271 ....results
