Selection Criteria for the National Squad
National Squad swimmers must satisfy the following criteria:
  • Swimmer must be registered with the ASAJ.
  • Swimmer must hold a Jamaican passport.
  • Swimmer must be in good standing with the ASAJ.
  • Swimmers on the National Team must be 11 years old on December 31 of the previous year.
  • Performance Requirements are based on the 2001 FINA Points Performance Ratings (charts may be viewed on the World Wide Web at www.swimnews.com ):
  • Time conversions are not permitted.
  • Achievement of 750 Points, in any event longer than 50 meters, on the points performance rating chart (LCM, SCM or SCY).
  • Swimmer, swimmers coach and parents/guardian must sign Commitment Form.
  • Swimmers coach must complete a Training Reports every six months. This form must reach the ASAJ Office no later than the first Tuesday after the Spring Age Group Championships (Feb/Mar) and the third Tuesday in August.
  • Swimmer must maintain minimum training requirements. If the swimmer is unable to achieve the minimum level in any one quarter due to reasons beyond the swimmers control e.g. medical, the National Head Coach may waive this requirement providing the swimmer, in the opinion of the Head Coach, has demonstrated a satisfactory level of commitment.
  • Must maintain a pass mark in all subject/classes (reports are to be submitted).
  • Selection to the National Squad will be for a period of six (6) months.
