The Tornadoes Swim Club,
with good performances from Brad Hamilton (40 points) and Dominic Lee
(33 points), pulled away on the final day of the AB Short Course Swim
Classic to score 763 points to win the Team High Points trophy ahead
of the Y-Speedos who took the runner up trophy with 620 points and
Marlins Swim Club taking the third place trophy with 77 points.
Two ten year olds,
Alford Green (Y-Speedos Swim Club) and Gillian Stewart (Tornadoes Swim
Club), swam spectacularly to walk away with top honours. With
“Quad A” times in six (6) of his eight events, Green scored 66
points while Stewart swam one “Quad A” and five (5) triple A times
to score 44.
Matthew Hilton
(Y-Speedos) and Tornadoes Kasief Raglan scored the only other “Quad
A” times on the final day of the meet when they finished one-two in
the 9-10 50 M Backstroke (40.24 and 40.57). Alford Green finished a
very close third in 40.59.
The AB Short Course Swim
Classic was the first major competition to be held in the 25 Metre
pool at the National Stadium pool in 25 years and the first ever using
electronic timing. The Amateur Swimming Association (ASAJ) had to make
a number of modifications to the pool to accommodate the electronic
timing.
The next competition will be the ASAJ Prep
Schools Swim Meet to be held on Saturday November 3, 2001.
