Allison Bardowell Wins Gold in Schools Swim Champs

In the 1a District 9 High School swim champs held in Florida, Jamaicans Allison and Melissa Bardowell competed forUniversity School and Nicky Cain swam for Pembroke Pines Charter. In the first event of the champs Melissa on the backstroke 30.97(34.56) and Allison on the fly leg 26.58(29.66) helped their school to a silver medal in the 200  yards medley 1:56.27 finishing behind eventual overall winners Pine Crest 1:54.78.
 

In the first final for the trio Allison picked up the silver behind Pemroke's Geni Burts in the 200 IM in a time of 2:10.07 (2:25.16) a seven second drop from prelims and a one place improvement in ranking. The eventual winner was Geni Burts from Pembroke Pines in 2:07.48(2:22.77).

 

Nicky Cain came into the final of the 50 free with a seeding of 7 and a time of 26.39 (29.45) she improved on both to finish 6th and register atime of 26.28 (29.33). The winner Leanne Darling of Westminister took the half century title in 24.44 (27.27).

 

Allison took the following by storm. In the century butterfly she powered into finals with a clocking of 1:01.40 (1:08.52) a 2.30 second advantage over the second placed swimmer. In the finals the writing was on the wall from the first 50 as Allison clocked 28.41 (31.70) she then turned in a final split of 32.27 (36.01) to leave the field for to record 1:00.68 (1:07.72) improving her win margin to 2.35 seconds. Sune Smith (Pine Crest) chased a distance behind to finish in 1:03.03 (1:10..34).
