Janelle
Atkinson, 18, of the Bolles Sharks was the women's Individual High-point
Champion with 72 points. 2nd place was Katie Robinson, 16, of the Bolles
Sharks with 70 and 3rd was Renate Duplessis, 20, of Pine Crest with 65.
In her last event of the competition , Jamaican Olympian Janelle
Atkinson, 18, won the women's 800 FR in 8:47.46.
Once
the points were tallied, the Fort Lauderdale Swim Team and the Bolles
Sharks were declared the 2001 Team Champions of the Speedo Champions
Series Southern Zone of the Southern Sectional.
FLST
won the Men's Team title with 694.5 points over Bolles with 622 and Pine
Crest with 392. Bolles won the Women's and Combined Team titles with 892
and 1514 points, respectively. In the women's meet, Pine Crest was 2nd
with 616 and Highlander was 3rd with 364. In the combined race, Pine
Crest was 2nd with 1008 and FLST was 3rd with 908.5.

Ryan Lochte, 16, of Daytona was the men's Individual Champion with 91
points. 2nd place was the Bolles Sharks' Brandon Cover, 19 with 90. 3rd
place was a tie between Jorge Oliver, 20, of the Bolles Sharks and Chris
Fowler, 17,, of Martin County with 78 points each.
The
final day saw 8 more National qualifying times and two more FGC records.
Daytona's Ryan Lochte, 16, won the 200 IM over Bolles Brandon Cover, 19,
2:06.95 - 2:07.98. Miami Swimming's Christina Swindle, 16, took the
women's 50 FR in 26.29 over Pine Crest's Kim Dodson, 20, (26.76), and
Aqua Crest's Rhi Jeffrey, 14, (26.78). Brazilian Olympian Fernando
Scherer, 26, of Coral Springs took the men's 50 FR in 23.60.
FLST's
Bradley Ally (Barbados) broke his 5th FGC record for 13-14 Boys going
2:13.07 in the finals of the men's 200 IM.
