Jamaican Tamara Swaby
helped Oakland University capture their third consecutive
Mid-Continent Conference Championships which was held December 1, 2001
at the IUPUI Natatorium Indianapolis, Indiana. Swaby won all three of
her individual swims and smashed the Championship Record for the 100 M
Butterfly in a time of 57.23. Swaby also help the Oakland Grizzlies
win the 800 yard and 200 yard Freestyle relays and the 400 yard Medley
Relays.
In the 50 yard
Freestyle, Swaby swam a 25.02 in the preliminaries but turned up the
pace in the finals to win with a time of 23.90, over a second ahead of
Anne Warner (XXXX) who touched in 25.08.
Swaby, who swam the
Butterfly events for Jamaica at the Winnipeg Pan American Games and is
training for next years Commonwealth Games, returned to win the 200
yard Butterfly in fine style, touching in 2:07.55.
Swaby was named the Mid Continent Conference Women’s
Swimmer of the year for the second year in a row.
