AIR JAMAICA AND SANDALS TO SPONSOR NATIONAL SWIM CAMP

Air Jamaica and Sandals have sponsored a National Swim Camp that will run from Friday March 8 to Sunday March 10, 2002. Air Jamaica has flown in Coach Pete Williams, Head Coach of Mercersburg Academy to work with National Coaches Jackie Walter and Teddy Hales. Sandals will provide accommodation for a portion of Coach Williams stay in Jamaica. The camp will focus on preparing the swimmers for the CARIFTA Games that will be held in Barbados, April 12-14.

Coach Williams has a long history of success in swimming. He has been Head Coach of Mercersburg Academy, which is renown to have one of the best school swimming programs in the United States. Williams was the 1967 U.S. National Champion in the 400 IM and a member of 1968 US Olympic Swimming Team.   He was also the coach of the U.S. Modern Pentathlon Team at the 1988 Olympic Games. Before going to Mercersburg as Head Coach fourteen years ago, Williams was the Head Coach of the Alamo Area Aquatics. While at Mercersburg, Williams has also worked as the co-director of the United Swimming Clinics working with swimmers between the ages of 8 and 18 during the summers.

Camp Schedule;

Friday March 8: AM session 5:30 – 7:00 / PM Session 3:00 – 5:00

Saturday March 9: AM Session 6:00 – 8:00 / PM Session 2:00 – 5:00

Sunday March 10: AM Session 8:00 – 10:00 / PM Session 2:00 – 5:00

The media is invited to attend the training at anytime. Interview will be granting at the end of each training session.
