Home
June 27, 2002...The National Swim Team
of 33 Swimmers and 6 Synchronized Swimmers will tomorrow start it’s
final weekend of training for the Caribbean Island Swimming
Championships (CISC) that will dive into action on July 3 in
Curacao. Five training sessions are scheduled at the National
Stadium Pool before the team departs Kingston on Tuesday, July 2.
Adi Atkinson, Alia Atkinson, Allison
Bardowell and National Team new comer Nekiesha Cain will arrive in
the island Friday morning to join the team for their first training
session on 5:00 PM. Raine Paulson Andrews and Ramon James are
expected to train with the team on Saturday. Janelle Atkinson and
Jevon Atkinson will travel directly to Curacao on July 2.
The Amateur Swimming
Association (ASAJ) today announced that Gillian Millwood has been
added to the CISC team to strengthen Jamaica’s 13-14 Female age
group contingent. Millwood, who was selected based on her Silver
Medal performance in the 200 M Butterfly at the CARIFTA Games, will
also strengthen the 4 X 100 Freestyle Relay Team by about one (1)
second.
ASAJ President John
Eyre at a team briefing today, stated that the “39 Swimmers and 6
Managers is not only the largest team that Jamaica has ever entered
in the Caribbean Island Swimming Championships, but is probably the
strongest in recent memory”.
The ASAJ is inviting
the press to attend any of the weekend training sessions to meet the
swimmers and coaches. This will also be a great opportunity for the
press to meet Jamaica’s overseas-based swimmers.
