Immaculate

swimming when they won the Mayberry Investments Girls Champion
Trophy by almost 200 points over their nearest rivals St. andrew
High. In the Boys division, Campion College (502 points) dethroned
St. Georges College (458) in a close battle while the University of

Point Standings)
St.
Andrew’s Rene Wright and Kingston College’s Brad Hamilton
swimming the first two events of the competition, started a parade
of record-breaking performances. In all, seventeen (17) records were
broken with fifteen (15) going to the Boys two (2) to the Girls. In
the very first event, Wright took six seconds off the 11-12 200 M
Free record, swimming 2:27.35 in an exciting finish with Gillian
Stewart, who also broke the record in 2:27.56. Wright and Stewart
returned to electrify the crowd in the 100 M Free, with Wright
swimming a personal best 1:07.45 to better Janelle Atkinson’s
record of 1:07.51. Despite swimming a personal best 1:08.47, Stewart
had to settle for second place. 11 year old Hamilton was easily the
swimmer of the meet as he easily won the 11-12 200 Free (2:19.64),
50 M Butterfly (30.87), 200 M Individual Medley (2:41.37) and 50 M
Free (28.79), all in meet record time.
Campion’s
Dominic Lee continued his recent form smashing three (3) 15-16 Meet
Records. Lee lowered the 200 M Individual Medley record by 8 seconds
swimming 2:23.47 in an easy win. The 200 M Freestyle was expected to
be a close battle between Lee and Wolmers Boys Todd Johnson, but Lee
surprised the field and went out fast to swim the first 100 in
1:00.05, turning 4 seconds ahead of Johnson. Lee maintained that
lead in the second 100 and returned to finish in 2:07.45. Johnson
swam 2:13.47 to take the silver. Lee’s third record came in the 50
M Breaststroke, which saw a fascinating battle with Sheridan Chung
(St. Georges College). Both swimmers went under Phillip
Borrasingh’s five year old record of 33.96 with Lee reaching the
pads in 32.91, just ahead of Chung (33.64).
Ardenne’s
Jason James, James Smith (St. Georges College) and Rene Wright had
two record-breaking swims each. Full
results have been posted.
The
club swimmers now turn their attention on the Walter Rogers Age
Group Championships scheduled to start February 28 at the National
Stadium Pool. This meet will be the last competition for swimmers to
qualify for Jamaica’s CARIFTA Swim Team.
