The Amateur Swimming Association today selected thirty-nine swimmers to the National Swim Squad for the period February – August 2002. Twelve (12) have qualified for the Senior Squad and twenty-seven (27) for the Junior Squad. One additional swimmer is being considered however the Association is confirming her eligibility prior to final selection. The swimmers are selected to the squad based on qualifying times (see National Squad page on the ASAJ Website), and commitment to their own development.

Eleven of the twelve Senior Squad Swimmers are presently overseas. Only Dominic Lee lives and trains in Jamaica. Alia Atkinson, Adi Atkinson, Jevon Atkinson and Allison Bardowell live in Florida while the others are attending either College or High School in the USA.

Y-Speedos Matthew Hilton made history to become the first Primary School student to be selected to the National Squad. Hilton, who attends Excelsior Primary, has only been swimming competitively for two year. Tamari Farquharson, Natasha Moodie, Gillian Stewart and Robert Chen all of whom train with the Tornadoes Swim Club, have qualified for the first time. Another first timer, Jonathan Wong, lives in Toronto Canada and trains with the Champion Athletic Club. He is registered in Jamaica with the Tornadoes Swim Club.

The Squad will immediately start training on Friday, March 8, at a training Camp sponsored by Air Jamaica and Sandals being held at the National Stadium Pool.
