As
curtains closed yesterday (Sunday, April 28, 2002) at the 6th
Annual Tornadoes Invitational Swim Meet host and Defending Champions
Tornadoes Swim Club surrendered the trophy to the Y-Speedos Swim
Club. The Y-Speedos won the Meet with a total of 1,247 points to
Tornadoes’ 1,193. Completing the top five (5) places were Marlins
Swim Club with 380 points, Flying Fish Ambassadors 211 and Royal
Swim Club 180.
Twelve
(12) Records were broken at the Meet. The Most Outstanding Records
being in the 11-12 Age Group 400 Metres Freesytle for both boys and
girls. In the Girls’ event, Gillian Stewart of the Tornadoes
clocked 5:05.35 to shatter Y-Speedos’ Tiffany Walton’s record of
5:21.56. In the same event, second place Rene Wright also of the
Tornadoes, clocked 5:06:06 to also break the record. In the Boys’
event, Tornadoes’ Brad Hamilton, the CARIFTA star who won 10 gold
medals, , swam a time of 5:01:46.to erase the previous record of
5:09:27 set by John-Claude Wright of the Tornadoes. Second place
Alford Green, Y-Speedos, also erased the record in a time of
5:02:40. Brad Hamilton also broke the 11-12 boys 50 Metres
Freestyle in a time of 27:46. Other record holders were Dominic Lee
(3), Ramon Walton (2), Tashna Smith-Edwards and Tiffany Walton in
the individual events. The Y-Speedos broke the 8 and Under Girls’
and the 9-10 Boys’ 200 Metres Medley Relays.
