JAMAICAN’S SHINE AT FLORIDA SWIM MEET

July 10, 2003…..Four of Jamaica's PAN AM Swim Team; Angela Chuck, Janelle Atkinson and Alia Atkinson all swam well today at the Speedos Champion Series being swum in Fort Lauderdale. Chuck swam 58.66 to place forth in the 100 M Freestyle, .03 second ahead of Janelle Atkinson who swam 58.69. Atkinson and Chuck both represent the Gators Swim Club. In the same event, fourteen year old Alia Atkinson swam a personal best 59.89 to place second in the Consolation Final.

 

Two events later, Alia Atkinson who swims for the Comets Swim Club, returned to swim 2:48.41 to take 14TH place in the 200 M Breaststroke. In the male 200 M Butterfly, Timothy Wong who is presently training for the PAN AM Games with the Florida Gators, touched in a very respectable 2:14.27 to claim 28th place.

 

In the penultimate event of the day, Janelle Atkinson swam a scintillating 58.35 to give the Gators 400 M Freestyle relay team a great start, but is was not until Angela Chuck swam an even faster 57.33 that they were able to seal victory and the Gold in 3:54.36. In an exciting finish, Pine Crest’s A team finished a close 3:54.14.

 

On Wednesday, Chuck and Janelle Atkinson helped their Gator relay Team to second place, swimming 27.54 and a hot 26.97 respectably.

 

The meet continues on Friday with the Jamaican’s swimming the 200 M Freestyle and the 800 M Freestyle Relays.
