GEORGE BOVELL HAS HIGHEST WORLD RANKING AMONG CARIBBEAN SWIMMERS

The latest top 150 times in the world have been released for swims done from the start of the year to September 10 and leading the way for Caribbean swimmers with the most appearances is Trinidad and Tobago's George Bovell, who has 4, and also the highest placing at number 2. That ranking coming from his great Commonwealth and Pan American Games record breaking swim of 1:59.49 in the 200 M IM at the Pan Am Games in August. His younger brother Nicholas Bovell, a CARIFTA Games record holder joins his sibling on the world stage at 144th with a 2:06.42 clocking also done at Pan-AMs. Bovell also has two more times in the top 20 , his 49.61 in the 100 free places him12th as does his PAM-AM Gold medal winning 1:48.90 in the 200 freestyle a performance which speaks volumes of the sport at the regional level. His 100 metre backstroke time of 55.81 places him 42nd.
 

Another swimmer placed in the top 10 but this time in the 50 free is French swimmer Julien Sicot at 7th with  his 22.32 done at the 2003 World Championships in Barcelona. Sicot who hails from the French speaking Caribbean is also the CARIFTA Games record -holder for the 50 free in the 15-17 age group. He also has another placing of 35th in the 100free in 49.90.

 

The Barbadian swimmers Nicky Neckles and Bradley Ally account for 5 placings in the world's top roundup .Neckles one of the best backstrokers in the region for at least 10 years is rated 143rd in the 50 at 27.17  and 139th in the 100 at 57.48. Bradley Ally one the region's more promising swimmers is still eligible for Carifta, clocks in at 124th in the 100metre breastroke (1:03.82)  and 87th in the 200 I.M. (2:05.09) events for which he was B finals winner at the PAN AM Games. In the 400 I.M. he has his highest placing of 57th in the world with a time of 4:24.42 .
 

From the Bahamas Jeremy Knowles makes his contribution to the tally with his PAN AMs 4th place clocking of 4:22.04 which puts him at 37th in the world. He got his highest placing in the200metre butterfly (an event for which he still holds the 15-17 CARIFTA record) based on his bronze medal winning performance at the World University Games in South Korea of 1:59.21 which places him at 25th.

                                    
 The Caribbean has three nations  in the relays which incorporate both times done for club as well as country. In the 400 medley the Barbadian team has the highest placings in both the 400 medley relay and 400 medley at 107 in the former at 3:52.98 and 111 in the latter in a time of  0f 3:30.16. The US Virgin Islands also have two placings at  135th in 3:55.00 and 121st in 3:30.70 . The Bahamas places 128th with their medley time of 3:54.57
