THE ASAJ NAMES JACKIE WALTER AS NATIONAL COACH

The Amateur Swimming Association of Jamaica (ASAJ) has appointed Coach Jackie Walter as National Swim Coach effective immediately. Coach Walter will be responsible for the development of Jamaica’s elite swimmers, particularly those on the National Senior and Junior Squads and will lead the coaching staff of Jamaica’s Swim Teams competing at the 2004 CARIFTA Swimming Championships in the Bahamas, the 2004 Caribbean Island Swimming Championships to be hosted by Jamaica and the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

Coach Walter will work closely with the ASAJ Swimming Technical Committee and National Development Coach Orlando Estrada to improve Jamaica’s National Team Development programme. This technical team has been tasked with improving the Senior Swim Squad training programme so that swimmers who choose not to go to school aboard will have a similar, if not better training environment locally.

Coach Walter will also have the responsibility for monitoring the Jamaican swimmers based overseas, working with their personal coaches to ensure that they are prepared for National representation.

Coach Walter’s contract will expire on August 31, 2004, just after the Olympic Games.
