Home

January 29, 2004.....At 5.30 pm on Friday, January 30, 2004 Club swimmers will dive off for the 9th renewal of the ‘Y’ Speedos Karl Dalhouse International Memorial Swim Meet (KD2004) in the National Stadium Pool. A total of 368 swimmers from eight (8) Clubs - Aqua Youths, Blue Seals, Dolphins, Marlins, Royals, Stingrays, Tornadoes and ‘Y’ Speedos have been entered in the meet.

This year, the overseas entrants comprise a team of 32 swimmers from the Stingray Swim Club of Grand Cayman, a club which has competed in all the meets over the last nine years and has always given good competition to the local swimmers. Again, this year should be no exception, with the inclusion of 15 year old Shaune Fraser in the team, as they match strokes with the defending champions the host team ‘Y’ Speedos Swim Club.

The ‘Y’ Speedos will be fielding their usual strong team of great depth with National Swimmers Todd Johnson, Matthew Hilton, Alford Green, Ramon Walton, Taryn Bridgewater, Nikitta Chin-See, Gillian Millwood, along with Victoria Ho and young Raynae Hall. The local rivals, Tornadoes, will provide some tough competition through their top national swimmers Brad Hamilton and Rene Wright; whilst in a younger age group, Blue Seals’ Kendese Nangle will have some exciting races with her Speedos counterparts of Ho and Hall.

The Masters Swimmers will also be taking part and the Tornadoes Masters will be going all out to defend their lien on the Karl Dalhouse Masters’ Trophy.  For this competition all the swimmers must be 25 years and over.

A new dimension to the Karl Dalhouse Meet this year will be the presence of FINA Olympic Starter and Referee, Jeannine Dennis from the USA Swimming. Ms Dennis will be on deck during the meet officiating and giving “hands on” advice to local officials in readiness for the Caribbean Island Swimming Championships which are to be held in Jamaica during July, 2004. Ms Dennis will also be conducting a Judges Clinic prior to the Karl Dalhouse Swim Meet on Thursday, 29th January at 6.00pm at the Sports Development Foundation Offices on Phoenix Avenue. All officials are invited to attend the clinic in preparation for the meet.

KD2004 will be held over the three days, Friday, January 30 – Sunday, February 1, 2004, with the sessions beginning at 5.30pm on Friday, 8.30am Saturday Morning, 4.30pm Saturday afternoon and the final session at 9.00am on Sunday morning. The presentation of the “Y” SPEEDOS’ KARL DALHOUSE INTERNATIONAL MEMORIAL INVITATIONAL SWIM MEET TROPHY and THE MASTERS TROPHY to the two winning teams is scheduled to take place at 12.30pm on Sunday.
