JAMAICAN SWIMMERS TO COMPETE IN FLORIDA WINTER CHAMPIONSHIPS

December 11, 2003…Six members from the Jamaican National Swimming Squad will leave the island this afternoon to compete in the Speedo Total Team Wares Winter Championships being held in Plantation Florida from Friday December 12, 2003 – Monday December 15, 2003.

The squad members leaving today are Gillian Millwood, Brad Hamilton, Donovan Todd, Rohan Johnson, Todd Johnson and Ramon Walton and will be accompanied by National Coach Jacky Walter and Team Manager Mrs. Terry Hamilton. Jamaica’s 2004 Olympic qualifier Alia Atkinson is also swimming in the meet for her club, the Comets Swim Team.

Jamaica’s participation in this meet is part of Jamaica’s preparation for the upcoming CARIFTA Games being held in Bahamas in April as well as its challenge to take top honors for the first time at the CISC Championships, which will be hosted in Kingston in July 2004.

Coach Walter is confident of a good performance from the team, particularly after witnessing excellent individual performances from the team members over the weekend at the ASAJ’s Gold Challenge Meet held at the National Stadium Pool.

The team’s travel is being sponsored by Air Jamaica and they are due to return to the island on Monday December 15, 2003.
