In an effort to expand its Synchronized Swimming programme, the Amateur Swimming Association of Jamaica (ASAJ) will stage its first ever coaches’ clinic at the office of the Sports Development Foundation, 31 Phoenix Avenue.  The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, November 22, 2003, 9:30 a.m.– 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, November 23, 2003 9:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  The workshop is aimed at young adults desirous of coaching synchronized swimming at the junior level, who are mature, leaders, competent swimmers, self-motivated, and disciplined.

Areas to be covered at the clinic include: establishing a team and/or club; administration; training  (physical & psychological); synchronized swimming techniques; and judging.  The cost of the workshop is $300.00 per person, and registration is being done at the ASAJ’s office at the National Stadium.

Synchronized swimming involves many complicated and intricate movements that require precise technical skills, finesse, and strength.  By mastering several fundamental concepts, a synchro swimmer can improve performance and increase the variety and type of movements.  The sport combines the pleasing attributes of ballet with the strength and control of gymnastics. Originally referred to as "water ballet," the synchronized swimmer combines athletic ability and creative style.
