HUNGARIAN WATER POLO TEAM ARRIVES IN THE ISLAND ON SUNDAY

The Hungarian Water Polo Club, Budapest Railway System Sport Club (BVSC) will arrive in the island on Sunday June 13, 2004 to play a series of games and train with Jamaica’s Male and Female Water Polo teams.

 

BVSC will provide the young Jamaican Water Polo Players with an exciting opportunity to train and play with some of the world’s best age group Water Polo Players. Hungary has a tradition of outstanding Water Polo. It’s National Team is currently the number one ranked team in the world, winning the Olympic Gold in 2000 (Sydney) and the World Championships in 2003 (Barcelona). Hungary holds the most Olympic Gold medals, seven, since the history of modern Olympics making it the most successful team in any Olympic team sport. Hungary is to Water Polo as Brazil is to football.

 

BVSC, an eighty years old club based in Budapest, has a long tradition of grooming players for National Selection. The BVSC team consists of players 18 years and younger athletes, three of whom are on Hungary’s Junior National Team while one of the coaches, Sandor Toth, is the Junior National Team Head Coach.

 

Team BVSC will spend two weeks on the Island to pass on their knowledge and vast experience to the Jamaican Water Polo National players who are preparing for the upcoming Caribbean Island Swimming Championships, to be held at the National Stadium Pool, July 2-6, 2004 and the Pan American Junior Water Polo Championships being held in El Salvador from July 15, 2004 to July 26, 2004.

 

There will be two training sessions every day at the National Stadium Pool and an Exhibition Game in the afternoon of June 25, 2004. On their days off the Hungarians will visit Montego Bay, Negril and Ocho Rios. The team will leave the Island on June 27, 2004.
