IMMACULATE PREP, STELLA MARIS AND MONA PREP TOP NESTLE
MEET
June 13, 2004
When the Nestle Ice Cream Prep and
Primary Schools Swimming Championships came to an end yesterday at the National
Stadium Pool, Immaculate Prep had proved too strong for the competition,
winning not only the Nestle Girls title but also capturing the combined points
Nestle Ice Cream Swimming Championship Trophy. In an exciting finish, Mona Prep
scored 167 points to edge Stella Maris Prep by just 6 points to take top
honours in the boys division. Dunrobin Primary and last years winner Excelsior
Primary battled all day long for the top spot in the Primary School Division.
When it was all over, Dunrobin had scored 37 points to squeeze out a narrow 6
point victory.
Immaculate Prep’s domination of the Girls
Prep Schools swimming continued as they scored 435 points, 219 points ahead of
their nearest rival Wolmers Prep who scored 352.5. A strong showing from Reynae
Hall, who set two new Championship records, helped Vaz Prep score 89 points to
take the third place trophy.
The boys division was the hot spot of
the day with just 22 points separating the top three schools, Mona Prep, Stella
Maris Prep and St. Peter and Paul Prep. With 161 points, Stella Maris in fact
appeared to have a comfortable 24 point lead going into the final event, the
9-10 Freestyle Relay. Needing only to place 6th to take the trophy,
it appeared that they had done the job as they swam 2:49.80 to finish 6th.
But the Stella Maris team was disqualified for an early take-off, handing Mona
Prep a narrow 6 point lead. St. Peter and Paul placed third with 145.
Raynae Hall (Vaz) proved to be the top
performance swimmer as she established new championship records in the 7-8
Girls 50 Metre Butterfly swimming 40.10 and the 50 metre Freestyle where her
34.12 lowered the record by a whopping 1.98 seconds. Dunrobin’s Chanel Hill
added her name to the record books in the preliminary heats of the 11-12 50
metre Freestyle, swimming 34.12. The final record was set by Immaculate Prep’s
Victoria Ho, who swam a fast 42.36 in the preliminary heats of the girls 9-10
50 metre Breaststroke.
The Nestle Prep and Primary Schools
Swimming Championships, closes the 2003-2004 schools swimming calendar.
