TORNADOES SWIM CLUB RETAINS “”AB” SHORT COURSE SWIM CLASSIS TROPHY

The Amateur Swimming Associations AB Short Course Swim Classic Swim Meet ended yesterday with the Tornadoes Swim Club scoring 758 points to retain the champions trophy. The Y-Speedos swim club took second spot with 687 point and the Blue Seals Swim Club third with 227.  A total of eighteen (18) meet records were broken at the Meet which saw swimmers gaining points based on the time standard achieved. An “AAAA” (quad A) time gained 10 points while a “B” time gained 1 point. 

 

The Blue Seals Swim Club topped the record list with nine (9). Kendese Nangle, swimming the Girls 9-10 category, broke both the 50M Backstroke, Butterfly, Breaststroke and Freestyle records in times of 34.85, 34.76, 40.98 and 30.85 seconds respectively. Eight year old Antoine Young was impressive while setting four new meet records. In the 100 M Individual Medley, Young swam 1:27.00 knocking 7.78 seconds off the old record. His other records came in the 100 M Freestyle, (1:17.87), 50 M Breaststroke (45.01) and 50 M Freestyle (34.57).

 

In the Boys 11-12 Age Group, National Junior Squad representatives and Tornadoes Swim Club Teammates Stefan Brown and Jason Adams set Meet record in the 100M Backstroke and 100 M Butterfly events respectively. Brown swam 1:12:34 erasing the old Backstroke record of 1:14:00 while Adams did an impressive “AAAA” time of 1:06.88 to break Brad Hamilton’s record time of 1:07.20 set in 2002.

 

Gillian Millwood (Y-Speedos) swam a “BB” time of 5:55.71 in 11 and Over 400 M Individual Medley to eclipse the old record time of 5:59.03 set by Audette Lawrence in 2003.

 

In the 8 and Under age group, Stefani Webley swimming for the Royals Swim Club, broke the 100 M Individual Medley record (1:32.29) while Blues Seals Tiffany Barrett swam 34.40 for a new record in the 50 M Freestyle. Marlins Swim Club Sidrell Williams was the only 8 and Under male record breaker when he swam 1:28.48 to erase David Broomfield’s record of 1:32.43.

 

The Tornadoes Swim Club claimed three (3) of the four (4) relay records broken. The Y-Speedos Swim Club was the other record breaker.

 

High Point Awards, based on the FINA High Point System went to the following swimmers:

 

18 – 21 age group             Dominic Lee            100M Breast            626 points

15 – 17 age group             Brad Hamilton         100M Breast            639 points

13 –14 age group              Matthew Hilton       100M Breast            594 points

11 – 12 age group             Victoria Ho              100M Free               482 points

9 – 10 age group               Kendese Nangle      50M Free                482 points

8 and Under age group      Tiffany Barrett         50M Free                348 points

 

The other teams finishing in the top 5 were:

The next competition, which will be the Walter Lowi Sprint Meet, will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2005 commencing at 8:30 a.m.
