CANADA HIGH PERFORMANCE DIRECTOR ARRIVES TO CONDUCT SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING CAMP, APRIL 6-10, 2005

April 5, 2005

The Amateur Swimming Association of Jamaica (ASAJ) will be conducting an intensive High Performance Training Camp for its National Synchronized Swimming Squad swimmers and coaches April 6-10, 2005. Jamaica’s Synchronized Swimming performances have been improving steadily but the ASAJ wants to increase the rate of improvement.

The five (5) day camp will therefore introduce the training levels and techniques required for the development of High Performance Synchronized Swimming athletes.  It is hoped that the camp will be the launching pad for the development of elite level performances at Age Group and Senior National Team Competitions.

The instructor will be Leslie Sproule, a Canadian who has been a member of Canada’s National Team as a swimmer, coach and high performance director. Canada is one of the worlds top synchronized swimming counties.

The camp will be held at the National Stadium Pool from 8:30 AM until 5:00 PM each day and the swimmers are being housed to ensure maximum focus. After the camp, Ms. Sproole and the ASAJ Synchronized Swimming Technical Committee will meet to assess the results of the camp and develop a plan to prepare a team for the 2006 CAC Games and possibly the Commonwealth Games to be held in March 2006.

The camp is open to the media and Coach Sproole will be available for interviews. Please contact John Eyre (371-1229) or Faith Palmer (322-6319) for information.
