SWIMJAMAICA SAYS GOOD BYE TO CATH AND PETER MOORE

September 16, 2007.

The ASAJ and SwimJamaica family last night thanked Cath and Peter Moore for four years fantastic years that they have given to Jamaica.  Cath and Peter who have for the last three years worked tirelessly to developed what is now, a fantastic National Learn to Swim programme, will be return to Scotland on Wednesday September 19. Over 60 persons attended the function held at the home of ASAJ President John Eyre including JOA President Mike Fennell, Managers of SwimJamaica partner the University of the Caribbean, numerous SwimJamaica Instructors, members of the SwimJamaica Board and many other friends of SwimJamaica.

Launched January 10th 2005 with 50 swimmers, SwimJamaica has grown rapidly to 1,500 swimmers (adults and children), 24 instructors, with pool based learn to swim programmes and one using the calm sea water of Discovery Bay. Key components of the SwimJamaica programme are the learn to swim courses for children and adults and an incredible career development programme for Instructors and future SwimJamaica Franchise holders. ASAJ President John Eyre praised the Moore’s for their high standards, noting that the high quality programme reflected the values displayed in their personal lives. SwimJamaica has set high standards for learn to swim programmes in Jamaica, ensuring that the learning process is safe, fun and in many cases, life changing.

Cath and Pete were a perfect team for this project. Cath provided the technical knowledge, writing over 140 lesson plans, while Peter provided the business expertise, developing SwimJamaica as a “not for profit organization”, founded and managed using sound business principals.

In his comments, JOA President Mike Fennell noted that he had watched the programme grow and was delighted with the high standards displayed.

Special SwimJamaica friend Mr. Brad McRae, a Canadian Management Consultant, made the evening very special when he turned up at the function unannounced. Brad and the Moore’s have developed a special friendship, which has resulted in Brad donating his profits from his courses in Jamaica to the SwimJamaica cause.

In a symbolic ceremony, Cath and Peter handed over the reigns to Georgina Boland who has assumed the position of Programme Director. She will be assisted by senior members of the SwimJamaica Instructors Team and the SwimJamaica Board led by John Eyre. SwimJamaica expects to have over 8000 swimmers in the programme within three (3) years, creating job opportunities for many Jamaicans as well as providing a larger base for the ASAJ to develop a strong competitive aquatic programme. SwimJamaica will be working closely with G.C. Foster College to integrate the SwimJamaica programme into the College’s curriculum when their pool is opened shortly and has partnered with the Rotary Club of Kingston to refurbish and run the Bournemouth Bath located on the Kingston Water Front.

Cath and Peter Moore will be missed, but they leave a well organized legacy which will grow rapidly. Cath and Pete, thank you!
