Bahamian swimmer Teisha Lightbourne competes for Northwestern

Bahamian freshman Teisha Lightbourne was in action on Friday Jan 5 as her university, Northwestern went down 220-131 to the University of Tennesseein Knoxville, Tennessee. Teisha copped first place in the 400 yard freestyle relay when she clocked 54.12 (1:01.92 LCM long course metres) to help the ÒAÓteam to a total time of 4:01.10. She took silver in the shorter freestyle relay, the 200, again leading off the ÒAÓteam this time with a split of24.74(28.40 LCM) to help them to 1:36.44. On the ÒBÓ team of the 200 medley relay she swam a breastroke leg of 31.40 (36.09) to help Northwestern to fourth in 1:49.86.

In her individual races she placed seventh in the 50 freestyle in24.81(28.48 LCM). She exhibitioned in the 100 yard freestyle and completed the4 lap race in 54.42(1:02.27 LCM) a time that would have placed her ninth overall.

Teisha completed her CARIFTA eligibility as a member of arguably the best Bahamian female team ever assembled for the games in Kingston, Jamaica2007. In the 15-17 division she was member of all 4 record breaking teams the400 medley relay, the 800 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay and 200freestyle relay which also doubles as the senior national record for the Bahamas.
