JAMAICA’S MALE AND FEMALE WATER POLO TEAMS QUALIFY FOR
GOLD MEDAL GAMES AT CARIFTA 2006
April 8. 2006
With a resounding 27-0
thumping of Barbados,
the Jamaican Female Water Polo team today qualified for tomorrows
final of the 2006 CARIFTA Water Polo Competition. With resounding wins in each
of their three (3) games, the girls look to be the favorites to take the Gold
Medal. After a quiet game against the Netherland Antilles yesterday, Sachelle Taylor tore the net apart scoring seven (7) goals.
Vanacia Johnson playing her usual aggressive water
polo netted four (4) times as did Chelsea Chen-Young whose play has shown
dramatic improvement in this competition.
Earlier in the day, the
Jamaica’s
Male team went down 7-9 to the Netherland Antilles in to tough game match which
ended at 1 AM. Despite the loss, the Jamaican Male Team qualified for tomorrows
Gold Medal Game as has the Netherland Antilles.
Trinidad and Barbados
will play for the Bronze Medal. The Jamaicans started slowly, probably tired
after a grueling 12-10 win over Trinidad and Tobago
just 9 hours before, and trailed 2-6 at the half. The third quarter was all defense as both team could only score once. Jamaica
left their best play for the fourth quarter netting four (4) times, but the
Netherland Antilles held on for the victory.
Jamaica, Trinidad and
Tobago and the Netherland Antilles all ended to
preliminary round with 3 wins and 1 loss and it was goal difference that
carried Jamaica
and the Netherland Antilles into the final.
