THREE SWIMS FOR JAMAICA ON DAY 3 OF COMMONWEALTH GAMES PRELIMS

March 18, 2006

Brad Hamilton was the first to race this morning, swimming in the Men’s 100 M Freestyle. Swimming in lane one of the last heat, Hamilton had another quick reaction time (.70) and got to the 50 M turn in 25.34, a slower time than he had planned. At the finish, Hamilton had his best morning 100 M Freestyle time ever touching eighth in 53.05, but it was not enough to advance to the semi-final placing 22nd overall. Cayman’s Shaune Fraser was .48 off his personal best too but he moved to the next round with a time of 52.48.

Tamara Swaby was very disappointed with her time of 1:08.28 in her pet event, the Female 100 M Butterfly. Swaby looked strong in the first 50 M but could not maintain her pace to the finish. She placed overall.

In the 200 M Breaststroke preliminary heats, Alia Atkinson was seeded lane seven  with the World Record holder Leisel Jones (Australia) just three lanes to her right. Atkinson finished eleventh place timing 2:43.81 with Jones moving into tonight’s final timing 2:29.96.
