JAMAICA’S NATASHA MOODIE IN WINNING FORM AT USA SWIM MEET
Jamaica’s Natasha Moodie on Saturday swam a fast 26.84 to win the 15-18 50 M
Freestyle Gold Medal at the 2006 USA Southern Zone AG Championships hald at the Georgia
Tech Aquatic
Center. Representing the
Gold Coast Region, Moodie swam the fastest time of 27.36
in the preliminaries placing her in lane 4 of the finals and powered home in
the finals swimming a personal best time, just off Alia Atkinson’s National
Record time of 26.71 (2006 CAC Games). Southeastern’s Deirdre Jones finished second in 27.24 and Moodie’s Gold Coast teammate Elizabeth Rogers third, timing
27.62.
In a previous event, Moodie
swam 59.45 in the 100 M Freestyle to take the Silver Medal.
Moodie, who migrated to the United States a few years ago, first swam for Jamaica at the 2005 Central American and
Caribbean Swimming Championships held in Santo
Domingo. She has shown incredible improvement since
moving to train with Alia Atkinson at the Comets Swim Club in Fort
Lauderdale, but has been unable to represent Jamaica since her first appearance
due to an immigration issue which has recently been resolved.
Moodie and Atkinson are now in California swimming in
the 2006 Junior National Swimming Championships which started yesterday.
