Career Development Programme

SwimJamaica offers vocational career opportunities through a structured pathway, starting from an Assistant working through to owning and managing a SwimJamaica Franchise.

Training courses

To enable a person to progress through the Career Pathway a series of training courses have been developed. These are detailed below.

Assistant course – designed to qualify a person to help a SwimJamaica Instructor to teach Levels 1 & 2 of the Children’s Programme

Length - The course is 12 hours (8 hours practical, 4 hours theory)

Prerequisites - Minimum age 14 years old. Able to swim 50m.

Trainee Instructor course – designed to qualify a person to instruct Levels 1 & 2 of the Children’s Programme.

Length – The course is 20 hours (10 hours practical, 10 hours theory)

Prerequisites – Minimum age 18 years old. Must have a current Lifeguarding qualification.

Instructor course – designed to qualify a person to instruct all SwimJamaica learn to swim programmes

Length – The course is 65 hours (35 hours practical, 30 hours theory)

Prerequisites – Must have a Trainee Instructor qualification, logged at least 80 hours instructing the SwimJamaica Children’s Programme and hold a current Lifeguarding qualification.

SwimJamaica Franchise

SwimJamaica instructors are able to purchase a franchise and run their own SwimJamaica Swim School with the backing and support of the organisation.
