SwimJamaica was launched in January 2005 and comprises three learn to swim programmes (one for toddlers, children and another for adults), a Career Development Programme providing Instructor training and business opportunities for those wishing to operate their own SwimJamaica Franchise.

An Airline Pilot and Flight Operations Manager, Mr. John Eyre, was President of the Amateur Swimming Association of Jamaica - ASAJ for 12 years (1999-2011). Noting the wide ranging standards of learn to swim programmes across the island, he conceived need for an organization like SwimJamaica in 2001 and has continued to champion the cause.
